TGI calls on healthcare boards, leaders to address social determinants of health
The Governance Institute (TGI), a service of NRC Health has launched a new campaign calling on healthcare boards and senior leaders to accelerate, align with others, and scale efforts to address the social determinants of health (SDOH) at both the local and regional level.
SDOH can be grouped into five categories: economic stability, education access and quality, health care access and quality, neighborhood and built environment, and social and community context. All of these factors play a significant role in a person’s health and well-being.
In understanding that today’s healthcare organizations are challenged by complex problems, TGI hopes bringing attention to one of the key social determinants of health can help produce results at scale. To do this, TGI will leverage research, data, and experience from the work of its partners to facilitate and coordinate an aligned strategy across competitive and sector lines in targeted regions across the country.
One Impact aims to:
- Facilitate and replicate programs and policies that work
- Develop specific action steps for boards and senior leaders to remove barriers to collaborative action, accelerate progress, and integrate SDOH efforts into strategic planning, culture, and the core of the healthcare business model
- Enable competitors to learn from each other and link arms in the advocacy space to shape policy and payment models, particularly at regional and local levels
In its first year, the One Impact campaign will focus on financial health.
“With all the noise in the SDOH space, we wanted to find a way to move from dispersed, diluted activities to a more focused approach that could make a deeper impact,” says Kathryn Peisert, TGI’s Editor in Chief/Sr Director. “Most importantly, there is a deep need to discover what boards and senior leaders can do, specifically, to accelerate the impact.”
