When needed most: Telehealth resources

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed consumer behavior and how people interact with healthcare organizations. Telehealth, an idea long on the horizon for healthcare, has now become a fully expanded service and is widely accepted by consumers.

Via Market Insights, we at NRC Health have been studying the effects of the pandemic closely, and as a result we’ve been able to track some of these changes to consumer behavior as they’ve occurred. Pre-COVID-19, telemedicine had rather low usage—yet ever since the pandemic began to curb in-person appointments, general use of telehealth services has skyrocketed. Today, 60% of consumers are somewhat or very interested in having phone-call appointments with their providers; 57% in screen-conferencing; and 51% in using a dedicated online portal. These are the highest levels of interest in telemedicine that NRC Health’s surveys have ever uncovered.
