As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, Hospital Outpatient Departments (HOPDs) and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) are gearing up for significant changes tied to the OAS CAHPS (Outpatient and Ambulatory Surgery Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) Survey.
Navigating new waters: OAS CAHPS and the impact on reimbursement
Starting January 1, 2024, HOPDs have been required to submit their OAS CAHPS data, with the first quarter’s data due to CMS by July 10, 2024. These results will be publicly reported on the Provider Data Catalog (PDC) and, beginning with Q1 2024 data, on Care Compare.
Meanwhile, ASCs will join in this initiative starting January 1, 2025, with their data also being tied to reimbursement. This update sheds light on the current status of HOPDs and provides essential information for ASCs preparing for the upcoming changes.
OAS CAHPS deadlines and details:
OAS CAHPS became tied to reimbursement for Hospital Outpatient Departments (HOPDs) beginning with January 1, 2024 procedures – Q1 2024 data will be submitted to CMS by the 7/10/2024 deadline
The OAS CAHPS public reporting schedule is below. Results are publicly reported once a CCN has four consecutive quarters of data. Currently, OAS CAHPS data are publicly reported in the Provider Data Catalog (PDC).
Beginning with Q1 2024 data, results will also be published on Care Compare for CCNs with four quarters of data. To accommodate the transition to Care Compare, there will be a one-quarter delay in 2024.
