There’s a Snake On My Head! Alleviating Fear and Anxiety
Imagine you are afraid of snakes and there is a snake on your head. Someone enters the room and tells you important things you need to know to take care of yourself. How much will you hear with that snake on your head?
Every day people walk into healthcare situations afraid: patients, families, AND care team members. While they are afraid, they cannot hear the important information we’re sharing. In this presentation, we will explore the speaker’s research study on patient and family fear and the most important things we can do to ease it.
Objectives:
- Describe the impact of fear in patients, families, and the health care team
- Discuss the research on the most important things people need when they are afraid
- Utilize effective strategies to decrease fear in patients, families, and the health care team themselves
