Pediatric Collab Preview: Patient experience strategy and infrastructure from the ground up

The NRC Health 2023 Pediatric Collaborative is truly a can’t-miss experience, with exceptional presentations that will stir innovative ideas for attendees to bring back to their larger PX and marketing teams. The collaborative’s theme, “Understanding On-deck,” will bring high-performing organizations together to connect directly with their “home team” of pediatrics and collaborate with and learn from peers in an intimate and intentional setting.

The event is set for March 28–29, 2023, at Phoenix Children’s in Phoenix, Arizona.

This year’s lineup includes a host of great presentations. Andréa Aken’Ova, Director of Patient and Family Centered Care, and Melissa Warden, Vice President of Clinical Operations, at Phoenix Children’s, will speak about how grassroots efforts were used to define and drive patient-experience priorities and build alignment throughout the organization.

Their presentation, “Just Keep Swimming: Building Patient Experience Strategy and Infrastructure from the Ground Up,” will outline the development of a strategic roadmap to create a consistently exceptional care experience as Phoenix Children’s has journeyed from hospital to health system.

As hosts, the one thing Phoenix Children’s speakers want attendees to take with them from their presentation is encouragement. “Our journey at Phoenix Children’s represents a less traditional approach to defining, resourcing, and prioritizing strategic improvements to the patient and family experience,” says Aken’Ova. “Often, even with a dedicated PX leader, organizational success depends on our ability to influence and not necessarily position authority. Resiliency and relationships are key.”

Their session will include:

  • Defining the role of in-depth gap analysis in driving transparency and presenting the need for change
  • The role of strategic planning in driving a shared vision to support the urgency or timeliness of change
  • Lessons about how to leverage existing organizational priorities to bolster grassroots efforts
  • Successful strategies and tactics to engage stakeholders and build a partnership to drive shared ownership and competing priorities

Aken’Ova and Warden express that pediatrics-themed events like the NRC Health 2023 Pediatric Collaborative are important because there are unique dynamics in the family experience in pediatric care. “Connecting with other pediatric organizations often provides more actionable information, because it frequently centers programs and services we all have in common,” Aken’Ova says.

Networking, and being able to truly compare apples to apples by connecting with other pediatric centers across the country, is key,” Warden adds. “I am excited to connect with old friends and make new ones! Learning from each other is the best way to advance our programs.”
